The Number 1 reason why people are joining the CCBF:Look in the mirror

It's been an amazing year. I just sat back and watched it happen:

  • Hundreds of new Christian business leaders became connected to each other, most of them over breakfast meetings in restaurants across the country.
  • CCBF's database of email contacts almost tripled over the past year.
  • Daily emails or phone calls from across the country from people who discovered the Canadian Christian Business Federation for the first time, and who wanted to know more.
  • A phone call last week from an author in San Diego, California who asked whether the CCBF accepts Americans. I told him: "I'll gladly take your money."

It seemed so easy: Send out a few emails to a few people, invite them to a breakfast meeting, and watch them begin a long journey talking about business principles from a biblical perspective. They came, they set dates for regular monthly meetings, and they keep returning month after month. The schedule below reflects the fact that there are 20 meetings in January. One group, Winnipeg Downtown, faithfully meets every other week and they will meet three times this month.

Dozens of men and women have asked about the 'benefits of membership' over the past year. We're used to asking those kinds of questions, aren't we? The answer, they've discovered, is staring them in the face whenever they look into a mirror. The CCBF holds up a mirror. It allows members to look at themselves through the 'eyes' of scripture and the wonderful leadership development materials that we provide based on the NIV Leadership Study Bible.

We realize that it's tough -- and lonely -- being a Christian business leader or professional in today's secular society. When we hold up that mirror we realize that we don't have all the answers; that we can learn from others, and that scripture provides profound lessons about daily concerns ... such as managing stress, taking risks, and being accountable.

It has truly been a moving experience to witness the creation of 10 new chapters over the past year. Ten groups of men and women, many of whom were strangers to each other, sharing their hearts and pains with each other. I've seen recently-formed groups of business leaders cry together and pray together. I've seen those about to retire from their businesses receive support and encouragement from their peers.

The Canadian Christian Business Federation exists for 'times such as these:' the secularization of the marketplace. God continues to open new doors. Those doors, I've discovered, are ecumenically wide. We are Christians -- Christ-followers -- and we readily share our faith as we share each other's struggles.

A new year lays ahead and I am anxious to see how God continues to reach hundreds across this country with the assurance that all that we are and have belongs to God. We're involved in ministry together.

May God continue to bless you in your 'business ministry' endeavors as you continue to connect your faith with your work throughout 2012

Executive Director
