ONTARIO CHRISTIAN GLEANERS ARE GROWING
OCG’s most recent Newsletter reports, “We have about 250 people that volunteer on a regular basis. Our volunteers come from as far away as Caledonia, Grimsby, Brantford, Woodstock, Elmira, Acton, and Burlington. We are getting to be known worldwide too! We have had volunteers from Zimbabwe, Holland, Florida, Vermont, and almost every province in Canada. To date we have processed and packaged over 3 million servings of soup and over 1,500 bags of dried apples and pears. So far our food has been distributed in 25 different countries.” Such success comes with a price. OCG needs more space, more about that at www.ccbf.org/more_than_business.htm and then click on the OCG logo. OCG President John Verbinnen continuous, “If you have been following the Gleaners progress from the beginning, you may remember that there were a lot of challenges with our first dryer and we ended up changing our system to the present belt dryer. This dryer takes up a lot of space in our warehouse and creates a lot of noise for the operators, people working in the warehouse, and volunteers in the processing room. A lot of work has gone into reducing the noise, but without costly retrofitting, the noise continues to be a concern. To overcome this problem as well as alleviate the lack of adequate storage space, the Board of the OCG has decided to build an addition. With an addition, we will move the dryer into its own room creating more storage space in the warehouse. I have attached a simple drawing of the addition showing the existing location as well as the new location of the dryer. Building plans have been submitted to North Dumfries Township and we hope to have a building permit before Christmas. The estimated cost for this addition is approximately $70,000. To date we have funds to cover approximately 30%. We pray, the Lord willing, that we can raise the balance in time to start construction by spring. Please prayerfully consider supporting the Gleaners financially in this project. All donations for the building fund should include a note stating that your contribution is to be designated for the new addition.” Their most recent web site entry “Soup for Haiti - Wednesday January 13, 2010 - 400,000 servings of soup were sent to help those devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.” shows how active and hands-on this organization is.
